Why do you need two antennas?

Well depending on the type of antenna you run, the range of your UHF can be affected massively, but with two antennas you'll always have the right setup no matter what tracks you're 4WDing. Different sized antennas transmit differently, it's referred to as gain.

A signal from a shorter gain antenna like a 3dBi is transmitted in a much wider pattern but won't travel as far so it's much better for hilly terrain like the high country whereas a larger gain antenna like a 6.5dbi antenna has a much more straight and narrow range so it's better for flat open areas like the Simpson desert.

Think of it like an Olympic runner the smaller antenna is better for short distances like a sprinter whereas the larger antenna is more like a marathon runner as it can cover big distances. With an Oricom UHF182X, you don't need to worry about changing antenna whips to suit the terrain you're 4WDing in.  UHF182X will always get the best range possible, no matter where you are.
